Bathroom Cleaning Myths You Shouldn’t Believe Any More

Cleaning tricks have been passed from generation to generation and we have always relied on family recommendations, without questioning whether these tips really make sense or not.

In the world of cleaning, some urban myths and legends do not have scientific criteria to support them, but we have believed them all our lives.

As experts in bathroom sanitation solutions, we tell you some of the myths about bathroom cleaning which are false.

THE BATHROOM IS THE DIRTIEST PART OF THE HOUSE

Although it seems that the bathroom is where the most germs accumulate, the truth is that it is not the dirtiest part of your house of all.

The truth is that there are other parts of your home that accumulate more germs due to their contact and continued use with your hands. Possibly your computer keyboard, your mobile phone cover, or the fridge are dirtier than your bathroom.

IF IT SMELLS GOOD, IT’S CLEAN

Even though you perfume and put air fresheners in all the corners of your home, it will not stop being dirty. It is as if we make up the dirt.

For a surface to be clean, it is not enough just that it smells good but it is a matter of texture and appearance in depth. For this reason, some chemical products with perfume make us seem that they clean in depth, when there are times that they do not, and they give that appearance because of the good smell they give off.

BLEACH IS EVERYTHING:

Unlike other cleaning products, bleach does not clean but disinfects. That is, it kills germs and bacteria but its purpose is not to clean. That is why we should not use it for everything since in some cases it can even damage surfaces.

On the other hand, you have to be careful with bleach as it is very toxic. It is advisable to replace it with ammonia since it performs the same disinfectant function and is less toxic.

WEARING GLOVES IS MORE HYGIENIC

The reality is that the inside of the gloves accumulates a lot of germs and bacteria.

For this, it is recommended to try to change them frequently in addition to avoiding keeping ourselves wet since this increases the increase of bacteria.

USING ONE FOR ALL PRODUCTS:

Do you use one cleaning product to clean the entire bathroom?

The concept of “less is more” doesn’t work for your bathroom. Thanks to the multiple surfaces which generally means that they need various cleaning products to be cleaned correctly. For tiles, you need a mild abrasive cleaner to remove mold and soap scum.

Bathtubs and vanities require something non-abrasive so that they won’t be scratched during the cleaning process. You need a good antibacterial product to stop the thriving of germs over the toilet. Glass cleaner is required to give your mirrors and glass surfaces a streak-free finish.

CLEANING OF YOUR TOILET BRUSH IS NOT NECESSARY:

Toilet brush becomes a harbor of bacteria and germs, but it is not often cleaned. The simplest way to clean your bathroom brush is to leave it in a bucket full of hot water with two bleach capsules for an hour. Rinse with hot water and leave it to dry thoroughly.

YOU DON’T NEED TO CLEAN YOUR PIPES:

Well, pipes are not something that deserves to be included in your cleaning regimen. Right?

Not right.

It is highly recommended that you clean the pipes every month or two to prevent grease, hair build-up, and oil inside.

The simplest way to do it is by pouring half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of white vinegar. Let it stay there for a few minutes so it can break down the fatty acids, then rinse it by pouring boiling water down the drain.
