From those unwanted visitors and burglars to the warm and cold air, doors protect you greatly. But do you protect your doors? Here it means that do you care for your doors? If not, you must do. Well, a time after some or the other damage can hit your doors. Thus, you need to be ready for it.

Door Alignment:

You might have observed that sometimes the doors become loose on its hinges. This will cause problems whenever you will try to open or close it. Well, it doesn’t affect the function of the lock. However, with the passage of time, a misaligned door can lead to greater stress on locking mechanisms. It is highly common with PVC doors. For this problem, it is advisable to contact a professional locksmith. If there is no real damage to the locking mechanism, it can be fixed by adjusting a few screws.

Door Swelling:

When you leave your doors untreated during humid conditions, it often leads them to absorb moisture. This make them swell soon, finally leading to damage. Now when a bit of force is applied, it can damage the door frame. And after few days it becomes hard to close it. In this case, the open edge of the door is required to be sanded or planed. This will allow it to close and also using hardware such as handles and locks you must realign it.

The Rusty Hinges:

It is highly important to maintain the hinges in good condition. While it is not a tough job to do, however, a combination of weathering and a build-up of dirt and grime can increase your problem. Yes, they do make your hinges noisy and stiff. So, here it is highly important to keep them clean. Regularly clean them using a lubricant.

If it is about the doors to outbuildings, i.e. the doors which aren’t used frequently such as sheds and garages, you need to pay greater attention. The reason being, these are more likely to suffer with rusty hinges than a front door.

Hardware Failure:

When it is about the most common types of door hardware, the handles and locks are highly prone to failure. Over the time, these will simply wear out and yes, they need repair or replacement. While the door handles can fall off, similarly the locks can too fail in a multitude of ways. What if the locking mechanism breaks internally? For both, lock and handle failures, it is advised to  get in touch with professional.
