Preparation: Before you start with the installation, the first thing you need to decide on is the number of shelves you need. Another aspect is to look for your need, i.e. whether you want adjustable or fixed ones. When you are done with this, then identify the exact location where you want the shelf mounted to be installed on the wall.

Look for the studs: Generally, most of the interior walls in a home are drywalls. Now you have to find the studs. The reason being, to secure the shelf these are the most secure spots. In some cases, you might have to adjust your shelf location to match the studs.

In case, you find no studs in the location you want to mount the book shelf, but you want it to be placed there only, you need to mount it to a hollow wall. Use mounting anchors or special bolts will help you then in order to hold the shelf and its weight. You will easily find a number of bolt and anchor options, which are designed for a different weight range.

Start drilling: Once you have found the studs, mark the location for the first standard to be fitted. Now you have to drill a hole in the wall. Carefully fasten the top hole tightening the screw about 3/4ths of the entire way. You can use a carpenter’s level in order to make sure that the standard is plum.  With a pencil mark the places where the remaining holes are to be drilled. You can drill the rest of the holes, position the standard and then tighten all the screws.

Placement: After drilling it is time to start with the placement process. Begin with a shelf support bracket near the top of the standard. Now you can hole the second standard, followed by placement of another support bracket in the matching slot. Between the support-brackets, place a piece of shelving. Repeat the process with the second standard. In the similar complete the drilling and then mounting.
